Opportunity Splits in Salesforce

Opportunity Splits facilitate team selling, by allowing team members to share credit for revenue on an opportunity. Previously, opportunity splits could only be managed manually. 

There are 2 kinds of Opportunity Splits:

Revenue Splits: Revenue splits allow you to allocate credit to sales reps who are directly involved in an opportunity, and responsible for the revenue associated with it. The revenue splits must total 100% of the opportunity amount.

Overlay Splits: Overlay splits allow you to allocate credit to team members who are somewhat involved in the opportunity but not directly responsible for the revenue generated from that opportunity. Unlike revenue splits, overlay splits are not limited by the opportunity amount. As a result, overlay splits can total any percentage.

In order to leverage this functionality, your Administrator must enable Team Selling.

Once Opportunity Splits is enabled for your organization, the Opportunity Owner role is added to each opportunity and opportunity team. To add and view splits - users will need to have EDIT permissions on opportunities. In addition, they will need to either be an Opportunity Owner or above the Opportunity Owner in the organization’s hierarchy in order to modify or view the splits on any given opportunity.
