Here's the Secret to Log into Salesforce on Your Desktop with Your Fingerprint on Your Phone

I'm willing to bet that you hate passwords as much as I do.

I hate passwords so much that I use LastPass to help me keep track of all my usernames and passwords across multiple devices.

As a Salesforce Admin working for multiple clients, projects - in production and sandbox environments, I probably have over 50 Salesforce usernames that I use on a regular basis.

Yeah, that's a bit outrageous to manage.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could just log into Salesforce on your desktop by placing your finger're logged in?

Do you realize that you can do this today, using your smartphone and a free app called Salesforce Authenticator, which can be downloaded on the Google Play Store and the Apple iTunes Store?

Here's what you need to do:
  • Install the Salesforce Authenticator mobile app on your phone.
  • On your desktop, check your user permissions in Salesforce to ensure that you have the Lightning Login permission enabled.
  •  Navigate to your user detail screen in Salesforce and click on ENROLL next to the line item for Lightning Login
  • Follow the instructions on the screen for downloading, installing & connecting the Salesforce authenticator.
  • Your mobile device will displace a two word phrase to enter into your Salesforce screen on the desktop.

  • Follow the instructions on your mobile device, and tap Approve when prompted.

  • Scan your finger when prompted on your mobile device.

  • Now you can log out from Salesforce on your desktop.
  • When you try to log back in, you will notice a cool lightning icon next to your name.

  • Without entering your password, on your mobile device, you will be prompted to press Approve and use your fingerprint to authenticate into Salesforce back on your desktop.

Yes - it's that simple.
