Learn How to Update Salesforce Records Using Your Voice

This article was inspired through a conversation that I had earlier today with Salesforce MVP, Jennifer Davis.

Jennifer and I were chatting about some of the cool and often overlooked features of Salesforce.

During the course of our conversation I mentioned how I recently asked about voice-to-text functionality with Salesforce...especially for field sales reps who are out on the road and don't want to spend lots of time struggling with the tiny keyboard on their mobile phones.

When I explained to Jennifer how I responded to this inquiry, we both agreed how "Salesforce veterans" often take many powerful features for granted...yet we both enjoy teaching others how to work with Salesforce efficiently across multiple devices and various use cases.

How did I respond to my client's inquiry?

Honestly - my client was initially a bit bewildered and taken aback when my face lit up with the question as I chuckled and said "Oh...that's a no-brainer!"

I proceeded to explain how the Salesforce1 mobile app on any Android or Apple device, along with the native voice dictation features of the mobile device allows any user to dictate practically any value in almost any field (not checkboxes or pick lists) - in order to update Salesforce.

By providing a live demo, I was able to further demonstrate how a user can simply navigate to any record, click EDIT and after placing the cursor in the appropriate field, click on the microphone icon on the keyboard to dictate whatever they want to type in that field.

When done, simply hit SAVE and your record has been instantly updated!

Now...you might be one of those people who are rolling their eyes right now thinking "Duh...that was incredibly obvious. What's new about that?"

If this was your response after reading the content above, I dare you to grab your phone, log into the Salesforce1 mobile app, and demonstrate this feature to your colleague or manager.

Take note of their response and let me know how that goes.

Heck, you might end up elevating your own reputation within the organization as the resident "Salesforce Hero" as a result!
